- Treat the area gently and avoid scratching or picking at your skin.
- Initially, freckles and sunspots may become darker and then flake off within 7-10 days for facial areas and 14-21 days for body areas. It is a normal and desired reaction.
- Avoid using scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams, acne creams or gels, loofah sponges, aggressive scrubbing, excessively hot or cold water, shaving, and swimming in pools or spas with multiple chemicals or chlorine until the pigment granules have completely subsided.
- After treatment, the skin may appear red and swollen and feel like a mild sunburn. It is a normal reaction, and applying an ice pack wrapped in cloth for the first 24 hours can help minimize swelling. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
- Avoid activities that cause flushing or excessive perspiration for at least 48 hours after treatment, such as exercise, hot temperatures, alcohol, spicy foods, and saunas.
- If the treated area feels warm, a cold compress can provide comfort within the first 12 hours after treatment.
- Hydrocortisone cream can be applied to ease itching, and Vitamin E or Aloe Vera can soothe the skin. If the area is very uncomfortable, oral pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil can be used.
- The treated vessels may appear lighter in color and less defined, with redness and slight swelling around them.
- Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment if the skin is not compromised.
- If the skin crusts or blisters, apply antibiotic ointment twice a day and contact your Ideal Image clinic immediately. Do not pick at the affected area to avoid infection or scarring.
- Keep the treated area moisturized and avoid direct sunlight. Strictly avoid sun exposure for 7-14 days after the procedure, and use a sunblock with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide if you have to go outside.
- If you’re in the middle of a series of IPL Photofacial treatments, avoid sun exposure between sessions and use a daily sunblock.
- Subsequent treatments should be based on your medical professional’s recommendation and are usually scheduled four weeks apart.
